THE EFFECTIVENESS OF SONG IN DEVELOPING STUDENTS’ VOCABULARY IN MTS NEGERI KOTA SORONG WEST PAPUA

This research was quasi experiment conducted at MTsN Model Sorong that aims to find out whether or not the use of song was effective in  developing  the  students’ vocabulary mastery. The sample was 64 students  took  at the seventh grade students of MTsN Model Sorong using randomize sampling. Those  were  32  students  at  grade VIIE as experimental  group  and  32  other  students  at grade VIIG as control group.  T-Test  was  used  to  analyse the data of pre-test and post-test for the experimental and control groups. It was applied treatment (children’s song) method for experimental group and conventional teaching method for control  group.  Liker  scale  using  multiple choice test which categorized into five classification, they were (80-100) Very Good, (67-79) Good, (55-66) Fairly, (41-54) Poor, and (0-40) Very Poor. The findings showed that mean score of pre-test on experimental group  was 62,97 and post-test was 85, while  the mean score  of pre- test on control group was 50,15 and post-test was 60,94. The degree of significance 5% or 0.05 in the t-table it was gotten 2.000. It means that t-table value was lower than t-test value (H0: 115,509 < 2.021), null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha:115.509 > 2.000) was accepted. This means, the use of children’s song was better and very effective  than  conventional  one  as  it shown a significant achievement in experimental group in developing students’ vocabulary at the seventh  grade  of MTs N Model Sorong.
